A Diagnosis, A Baby, And Walking In Strength

Two years ago my husband and I found out I was pregnant! We went to the doctor and we found out my blood sugars where off. I was told that my baby would probably not make it.

Devastated and scared, we decided to go see a new doctor and get some more blood work done. We found out that I have Type One diabetes and that for the rest of my life I would have to be on insulin and check my blood 8 times a day! So that day I got a log in book and learned how to give myself shots all while trying to be strong for our baby that was growing inside of me.

I lived in fear for 9 months worrying about her even as my new doctor continued to assure me everything would be okay. After a long 9 months, one stay in the hospital (for the flu), and writing down every single thing that I ate, we had a beautiful healthy baby girl named Lucy!

I still struggle daily with this disease but I would take it any day knowing that I have my healthy baby girl. My husband gave me a giving key with the word "Strength" on it. It means so much to me to know that he sees me in that light and I love him so much for it. I can't wait to pass it along to someone else who needs one day, but for now I will walk around with it and fight my disease.
