A good friend gave me a Giving Key for my birthday in February, with the word INSPIRE. When she gave it to me, she said "you have no idea how much you inspire others." I was so touched, I had shared the story of The Giving Keys with my friends months ago, because I thought the idea/organization was wonderful (I had also given my sister-in-law a key for Christmas).
In October, I heard a family-friend speak in church. This friend has gone through so much in her life, the worst of which, 7 years ago, she watched her daughter be sent to prison for life. Our friend has been such an inspiration to others around through this terrible time...she ministers to those in the prison, including her daughter, as well as families of other prisoners. She takes them small gifts when she visits her daughter and continues to smile, love and inspire others, while never giving up hope.
I gave her my INSPIRE key after I heard her speak at church that day (I changed necklaces at the last minute, not knowing I would give it away a few hours later). I explained the meaning behind the key and told her how much she has inspired others - she immediately put on the necklace and said she would cherish it. Like I was when I received it, she was touched by the gesture.
