The Great Comeback

For 14 years I worked as a Sr. Account Executive for six radio stations in Greensboro, NC. During that time I was also operating a nonprofit organization called the Sparrow's Nest, Inc. in the evenings and on weekends. This organization was developed to empower and inspire youth from undeserved communities to explore beyond their current circumstances through hands on leadership initiatives. At the beginning of 2014 I decided I would leave my comfort zone at the end of June and step out on faith and work the nonprofit organization full time. At my going away party on June 30, I was given one these keys with the word "inspire". I work with so many kids who inspire me, so I knew it would be hard to choose just one, however I found someone within two days of having this cool necklace and it wasn't a youth from my organization. I was contacted by one of the parents in the organization. She was about to lose everything. She suffers with fibromyalgia and depression and has 2 school aged children. She lives in public housing has struggled to find a job to support her family and life had become overwhelming. She is faced with the possibility of living in a shelter, but she is determined to keep looking for work and being the best mother she can no matter where they live. She has goals she's reaching for and is even working on creating a nonprofit to help empower teen girls in her community even at her lowest point. I felt inspired after speaking on the phone with her. This is only a momentary setback for her great comeback. Traci B, I salute you!
