Brave In So Many Other Ways

I sent my courage key to my friend Gertrude. There's no one I know who is braver. Although she is a grandmother, and was married for 42 years, she recently had the courage to leave her husband after years of abuse. Since taking that step, she's become brave in so many other ways.

She stood up to her employer when they tried to blame her for a coworker's mistake. She had surgery on both of her ears to improve her hearing. And she treated and beat thyroid cancer. All of this within the last 3 years!

At first, Gertrude was my mentor as a new registered nurse. Then she was my friend. And now she's become a role model of courage for me and so many others. Thank you, Gertrude, for being brave.
