Last year I had ordered a key with the word "courage" on it. I was going through a bad time in my life personally, and I didn't really like where my life was going. I was away from home, had no friends, and I felt so alone. When I first heard about The Giving Keys, I was instantly hooked to the idea. So I ordered a key with the word "courage" because I knew it was what I needed at the time. After I received my key, I wore it all the time.
A few months later, I received some devastating news. One of my students was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. The year before she had suffered from headaches all the time and was having problems with her memory. She was one of the few people in this new place who helped me adjust the most. When school stated again, Laura wasn't there. She was deep into treatments, fighting her cancer with everything she had. Her courage was amazing. I wrote her a letter and told her how amazing I thought she was. I enclosed the key telling her that I thought she needed it more than I did. Today Laura is in remission and back at school. I will always remember her and her courage. She is my inspiration.
