More Than You Know

On Friday, June 14th 2013, I was given a key inscribed with the word STRENGTH. This key was given to me by Danielle, a pupil who'd attended my kindergarten over 20 years ago.

Danielle was involved in an accident and had a severe injury to her foot. She now suffers from CRPS (Complex Regional Pail Syndrome). CRPS is a chronic pain condition which is believed to be caused by damage to, or the malfunction of, the peripheral and central nervous systems. The central nervous system is composed of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system involves nerve signaling from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. CRPS is characterized by prolonged or excessive pain and changes in skin color, body temperature, and/or swelling in the affected areas.

This young lady has suffered for years and I have always admired and been amazed at her strength and positive attitude dealing with all the effects that CRPS has had on her beautiful body and mind.I was diagnosed with breast cancer this past March, and have now started my very intense chemotherapy treatment as the form of cancer I have is very aggressive.

I am away from my home as I live in the West Indies and now will be in Houston until November being treated. This has been a very difficult time for me dealing with this illness, being away from home, away from my family and friends, the loss of my hair, fears of the effects of chemotherapy, and anxiety about the future.

On the morning of Friday, June 14th I was in tears having had a particularly tough day and went to visit Danni, when to my surprise I was told about The Giving Keys and was given my "STRENGTH" key. This touched my very soul and I realized that the issues I am dealing with are nothing compared to Danielle's who passed the key to me.

I promise to keep my key safe and will have it as a reminder of Danielle and her "STRENGTH" which I know will support me until I find someone who needs it more than I do.

Thanks Danielle... you gave me more than you know.
