Someone So Close

I work for a give back company that sells these keys in their stores. I have always been obsessed with the word "strength" so I decided to buy the Giving Key "STRENGTH". I loved the idea of someone hearing a stranger's story and then being able to pass on some Strength to them through the key. One of my favorite quotes we live by at work is this: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." I never thought my key would be given to someone so close to me.

This year in March, my grandmom's life was completely changed. Her husband, her best friend and rock, passed away suddenly. He had been suffering tremendous pain from having both legs amputated a couple years ago. He knew it was time to go home.

My grandma is a fighter. She always is putting others before her and never complains. She is always counting her blessings and has a attitude of thankfulness in her daily walk with the Lord. But since March she has been battling anxiety and depression. It's hard for her to do anything without her best friend by her side.

On Christmas Eve we were sitting at the dinner table laughing and telling memories when my grandma asked me about my key, thinking it was for my apartment. I explained to her the story behind the key and how you're supposed to pass it along when you meet someone who needs it more than you. Instantly my heart was moved to give it to her. I took it off my neck and walked over to put it around her neck. She needs it more than I do.

"God is our refuge and STRENGTH, an ever-present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1
