Rear-View Mirror

Around October my mother decided it would be a great idea to get me a Giving Key for my 17th birthday.

I met my best friend the summer before - we had always attended to school together but never got close until now. Spending every single day with him was what I looked forward to every day that summer - riding four wheelers, going shopping, being around friends, or just riding around in his big red truck. It was the best time of my life.

At the beginning of October, I talked him into going on another shopping trip with me (which was very easy to do, he was the type to do anything for anybody). We were in Midtown in Tuscaloosa, Alabama when I got a phone call from my mom saying to pick out a Giving Key while I was out and that she would wrap it when I got home. I knew it wasn't right for me to pick it out myself so, I explained to him what it was, and he agreed to pick mine out for me.

After checking out, all I heard from him all night was how I paid $50 for a old key on a chain and on and on and on. Everything went fine from then on; I got it for my birthday and wore it now and again.

One night he was with me again, he put the key around my rear-view mirror and it's been there ever since.

My best friends name was Michael, he was 19 years old and died on December 9th, 2015.

We were all heartbroken and didn't know exactly what to do. I kept the key around the mirror for a while. His family and I grew very close to each other and one day his mother and I decided to plan a dinner.

On February 5th, 2016, we went to our dinner together and I decided to give my key to her. The word on the key was Believe, he had picked it out because of my tattoo. I told his mom the whole story and I'm so glad I get to cherish it with her now. I am blessed with the memories I had with him, I love him to death and he will forever be missed.
