Andy Grammer x #BlackoutHomelessness

#BlackoutHomelessness is an issue very close to my heart. The music video for “Fresh Eyes” was filmed on Skid Row, right down the street from The Giving Keys HQ and was inspired by the fight against homelessness. I visited Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles’ longest running homeless shelter, where I sat alongside the residents and heard their stories. After spending time there, we provided the residents with new clothes and haircuts in the hopes that they would see themselves with fresh eyes and a renewed confidence. ... My Matte Black Key says “PATIENCE.” PATIENCE isn’t always easy, but it’s a virtue that’s necessary to make space to create. After performing at a concert last week, I met a woman with a key around her neck. She told me that during her battle with a life-threatening illness, she found hope and strength in listening to my music and holding her key. I listened to her story and she explained the meaning behind Giving Keys and told me they were meant to be passed on. She then took the key from around her neck and gave it to me. It’s in these moments that I’m reminded of the meaning and power behind our work, our words, and our creativity. You never know where the power of PATIENCE can lead you. -Andy
