The summer of 2015, my intern at Back on My Feet (a nonprofit that uses running and community to help the homeless reach their finish line of employment and housing) told me about Giving Keys to reach out to for a Silent Auction item for the Back on My Feet Bash. I looked up the company to learn more than a Silent Auction item, I found a little something that I needed as well. About to embark on my fourth round of IVF treatments, I had lost hope, was frustrated and thought I would never become a mom. I bought myself a Believe necklace to remind myself that I had to believe that I would be a mom. In July we had our fourth round of IVF and with little hope that it would take, we found out on August 4th that we were pregnant. I wore the necklace through my entire pregnancy, through every ultrasound, stress test, blood work, reminding myself to believe that we would get to become parents. On 4/4/16 our bundle of joy, Theo, arrived. Four rounds of IVF and on April 4th I became a mom. Throughout the four years of trying to get pregnant, I learned that it is more common then I ever thought and many women struggle with fertility issues. The conversations and support that I got from other women was amazing and helped get me through. My best friend is currently having her own issues with fertility and as she embarked on the road of becoming a mom, I passed along my necklace to her reminding her that she has to believe. It will happen, and it does happen.
