One year ago, I was violated at a party by a man I had just met. Being BRAVE was difficult, as he made me feel weak and without courage. Recently, when realizing that it had been so long since this life-changing event, I decided to put a real effort into improving my mental health. One of the things helping me do that is my new necklace. I now wear it every day.
I chose the word BRAVE because I often need a physical reminder that I am BRAVE and that I cannot let this break me. My key is not always showing, but just knowing that it is there gives me more confidence to live my life to the fullest and not let the past negatively shape my future. I am not saying that this key is a magical piece of jewelry that solves all of life’s problems, but for me, just knowing that I am doing something to improve myself helps a lot.
I hope this story is not too depressing, but that it makes other women who have been abused in this way realize that they are BRAVE and strong enough to get through whatever has happened. No one should ever force you to do something you don’t want to do.
