My Story
On the 6th of March 2017 I was getting ready for work like any other day. Except when I got out of the shower I collapsed with the worst pain I had ever felt. I was dizzy and light hurt like crazy. Like an idiot I went to work anyway. I threw up when I got there. Halfway through the day I went to the ER and after two CT scans and a spinal tap they found out that I had a brain bleed and an aneurysm that had ruptured.
I had to be rushed to Denver with the flight for life crew and went to the neuro ICU. I was told that I would be in the hospital 6 to 9 weeks. They found another aneurysm during my surgery to repair the first one and also found out that because of the location I could lose sight in my eye. They fixed both of them, I only lost half of the vision in that eye, and I left the hospital 11 days later. I was in intensive rehab and physical therapy.
When I went to an event in Dallas six weeks later and walked with the assistance of a walker and wearing an eye patch I shared my story with my volunteer group of several hundred people from around the world. My mentor gave me my Inspire key at that event. Since then I have continued therapy, improved my recovery, and worked around my disability.
I have used it to show others how they can overcome things. Over the last few years I have made good friends with a man named Willie Meyers. My story is nothing compared to his. He used to be in the military and private security forces overseas. He worked with high level government officials and served as a firefighter. While on a swim overseas he was caught in the undertow and became paralyzed from the neck down.
He has never given up, has worked incredibly hard, and has even started to walk again in small amounts. He has worked with some other motivational leaders and has written a book. So this beautiful veteran who served so many is who I gifted my Inspire key to. His story will impact so many. I know it impacted me.
