As a kid growing up, my soccer team would break up into two teams and scrimmage each other towards the end of practice.
Often times, one player would be so focused on keeping the ball in their own personal possession and making a “great play” that they would fail to realize they had taken the ball away from their very own teammate.
Suddenly, one player would yell out “SAME TEAM! SAME TEAM!” and would jolt the other player back into focus of the common goal and the team as a whole.
In a moment of conflict in the car with my wife, without a blink of an eye, I cried out “Same team! Same team!” Because in the midst of both of us focusing on our own hurts, we lost sight of both wanting the same thing… to win at this beautiful game called love.
Sometimes it’s the hardest thing to do when your head is so focused down on your next move that you don’t see your teammate there right in front of you, waiting to help you win.
We are all on the same team. Playing towards one common goal. And that goal is love.
