Lessons in Love from @Thelacouple

Callie and Leo, @thelacouple, are on the SAME TEAM. I think our favorite part of our love story is the feeling of being so sure. We were set up on a blind date through a friend, it was the first blind date for either of us. We were both fresh out of long relationships and not looking for anything serious. I, Callie, went home that night and told my roommate that I had just met the man I was going to marry. Without sounding like the cheesiest person on earth, It was as if our souls had danced a thousand times before. We have hung out everyday since that blind date, and now we are getting married in May! In a relationship, teamwork really does make the dream work. Being in a relationship definitely means you and your partner are a team. It's almost as if relationships are the ultimate team sport. You each bring your unique gifts and talents and use them to create something better than either of you can do alone.   In times that we don’t feel like we are on the same team, we communicate just that and speak openly about our thoughts and feelings. We have both been in relationships where we have let things "slide" or have bottled up our emotions in an effort to be non-confrontational. Inevitably, if something bothers you and you don't say anything it will grow and eventually fester in a big way, or you will withdraw from the situation and thus create space between you and the person you're with. We choose to use those moments in our lives as learning experiences, and when anything is bothering us we just come right out and say it. Communication is key in any team situation. Being a successful team involves selflessness, sacrifice, trust, understanding, respect, and perseverance. For the team to be successful, every member has to give the team their everything and place their teammates above themselves. The same goes for a relationship. In relationships, you must place your significant other above yourself, but still maintain a healthy balance to do what is best for you. You cannot love someone fully if you do not take care of yourself. Hearing their desires, their wants, and their fears allows you to experience your significant other more deeply and love them in a way that is more intimate than superficial puppy love.   -Callie and Leo, @thelacouple, Travel Bloggers
