I have
Received a Giving Key
With the word
ANYWAY
My Story
“People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered; love them anyway. ... Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth; give the world the best you have anyway.”
These are the first and last lines in Dr. Kent Keith’s “Paradoxical Commandments,” which were also said to be written by Mother Teresa on the wall of her children’s home in Calcutta.
I got this for landing my very first job in healthcare, working at a level one trauma center and major metropolitan hospital. “Anyway” to me means loving and caring for not just every patient, but every person, with no restrictions, no qualifiers, no questions.
Even the mean ones, even the hateful ones, even the ones who have hurt me; do it anyway. I meet these people under the worst circumstances, on the worst day, week, month of their entire life. They’re not always going to be happy with me. They’re not always going to be kind. And it is because of that, I’m going to love them anyway.
