Keep Smiling

I was given the strength key from my sister, knowing that someday I could pass it on to someone who needed the strength more than myself always put a smile on my face.

In the spring of 2009 while visiting a friend in Florida my parents called to tell me that a family friend of ours had just been diagnosed with cancer. A friend that I have known my whole life, who babysat me, a friend I looked up to, my inspiration for becoming a teacher, and a bridesmaid in my wedding. I could not even form a sentence only tears that ran down my face.

This beautiful friend of mine has had numerous surgeries, countless bouts of chemo and radiation in the past 5 years all while keeping a positive attitude and always a smile on her face. She currently is undergoing chemo once again, as the cancer has returned and keeps spreading. These chemo treatments are really making her sick and she is unable to be at school. See, she is an elementary principal and she is ADORED by all of her students past and present. She is the sweetest, kindest, most positive person you will ever meet. She always has a smile on her face. Her students are missing her like crazy. Her trademark is a smiley face, and everywhere around the school you will see yellow and smiley faces, two of her favorite things. I mailed her my key with the word strength on it. She is the strongest person I know. I hope it helps her realize just how strong she is :)

She truly is an inspiration not only to myself, but also to her students as well as the community.
KEEP SMILING :)
