I am 43 years old, a mother of two gorgeous boys, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer on March 27th, 2015. It was discovered during my routine mammogram, and was obviously a bit of a shock. Regardless, I attacked this disease swiftly, and with as much force as possible and painstakingly researched each doctor and decision. I had a double mastectomy on April 29th, and I feel very fortunate that all of my scans were clear.
A dear friend texted me and asked me if I'd be able to meet one of her best friends for coffee. She had recently been diagnosed, she was scared, and wanted to know if I'd share my referrals and talk with her. We spent a lovely morning together walking through different scenarios, and as I was leaving I put my 'FIGHT' key around her neck and told her that she needed this more than me now. She cried. I cried. We hugged.
The best part of this story is the text that I received from her that afternoon:
"Sister, I just got my results from BRCA! NEGATIVE!!!
It's the key, I swear!!!"
