Pure Selflessness

It was a week after the one year anniversary of my fathers death, so I was in a depressing mood. I was only 12 years old at the time of his death, so I was having a hard time coping. It was also a week before my birthday and I was having a bowling party. My mom and I went in there with the intention of assuring the party I was having that weekend. There was a lady with beautiful blond hair no older than 26. She was wearing a green t-shirt, and a necklace with a key engraved "BELIEVE". I recognized the that it was a Giving Key, and said, "Hey I like your necklace, is it a Giving Key?" She said yes and said she bought it at a local mall.

As she was confirming my party, she asked me what word I would want on a key if I got one. I said any word that's meaningful. After I said that she lifted the chain from her neck and placed it in my hand. She said "these keys are meant to be given to people, and I want to give mine to you." I had no words, but I have her a hug. In that moment I think we both understood each other. She doesn't know my story and I don't know hers.

She will probably never read this, but in case she does I just want to say thank you for giving me the strength to believe in myself, in a time where I feel weak and vulnerable. You have changed my life in so many ways with this one act of pure selflessness.
