Three weeks before my 16th birthday, I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. I won't get into the sad and scary details, but I really needed STRENGTH to push through and survive.
A family friend bought Giving Keys for my whole family: my mom, my dad, my twin brother, and me. Each of our keys had different words, and somehow she knew what each of us needed, and what helped us through it all. We wore our keys every day through treatment.
When I was done with chemotherapy and officially cancer free, there were so many people I had met that could use my key, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it.
So, my whole family got key tattoos, each with the words that were on our original keys. I finally felt ready to pass on my necklace, as I will have my Giving Key with me forever.
